I am an avid reader. There is no where else I’d rather be than wrapped up in a comfy chair, cup of coffee in hand and a good book in my lap. I’m convinced I read my first book inside the womb because I can’t ever remember a time I didn’t love to read. Most people assume I have a Kindle or am in love with the thought of an e-book but this is definitely not the case. I have a few books on my iPad but I love the feel and smell of a book. There is just something about turning the pages that gets me all giddy inside. The whole swiping thing just doesn’t quite have the same effect. Anyways, in that spirit here are the books I’m currently having a love affair with. (Pardon the library stickers) (Yup, I still frequent the public library….it happens to be the coolest place on earth)
First up is The Body Book by Cameron Diaz. I have been wanting to get my hand on this book since it was published late last year. I like Diaz and think she is very “girl next door” which meant her book was probably full of tips and tricks even this plain jane could pull off. It is literally full of exactly what the title suggests….the Body. She breaks down everything from nutrition to fitness to everything in between. What I like about this book is it really explains the body (and how it functions) in kindergarten terms. There is no fancy dancy medical terminology (that you have to hold a degree to understand) but rather diagrams and pictures and easy explanations. Since I do have a medical education I knew most things in this book but I still really enjoyed it. I am a HUGE advocate for EVERYONE getting educated on their bodies and understanding how they work and function. Some day we will all be faced with having to make medical decisions and without education we are doing ourselves an injustice. It is not up to a doctor to make the best decision for you….it is up to you. So ladies….get this book, read it cover to cover, and learn to love your skin….cellulite and all.
Secondly, I got the Happiness Project. It is written by Gretchen Rubin and basically documents her journey of trying to find happiness every day for a whole year. I haven’t gotten to far into this one yet but so far so good. Getting bogged down in the daily stressors and conflicts really adds pressure and stress to my life. So this book will be good for me to stop and think about ridding myself of toxicity (things and people) and being able to embrace those things which really matter and cause true happiness.
In third I have The Collector by Nora Roberts. I have ready every book this woman has ever published under this name and her other (J.D. Robb). I am in love with her style and how she writes. She is one of those authors that captivates your attention on the first page and you literally can’t put it down until you hear your alarm clock ringing and you realize it’s the next morning, you haven’t slept and it’s time for work. Yes, this has happened to me. She has this amazing ability to be thrilling and keep you guessing with twists and turns thrown in. This was last years book so I am a few months behind but definitely excited to dive in for another juicy read.
Last but not least I have Top Secret Twenty One by one of the funniest authors I’ve ever come across…Janet Evanovich. This woman is hilarious…really. I love her Stephanie Plum series which always has me laughing out loud….literally. The whole plots and stories are so outrageous but completely relatable at the same time. Stephanie Plum is pretty much a hot mess and is trying to figure out her complicated life. I’m pretty sure every woman on earth can relate to that. For anyone who needs a good read and a good laugh I highly recommend the whole Stephanie Plum series. Just don’t start at book 21….start at 1 (or you’ll be lost) and prepare to have an Evanovich marathon full of laughter.
I’ve got lots of other books in my hold folder at the library so am feeling pretty good about fulfilling my “READ MORE” resolution for 2015. My next reads will probably include Gone Girl (can’t decide if I want to see the movie first or not) and Molly Sims’ new book on beauty and body tips. Comment below with what you’re reading this year and what I should pick up next. I’m always looking for suggestions. Happy Reading!!
