I haven’t done an update in a while so today is a perfect day for a What’s Been Happening.
Last week we had 3 snow days and a “main water break flooded the school” day. This all meant that the older two boys were home for 6 days in a row. Now before I set the mommy world on fire let me say this…. I LOVE having all the kids home, however, I DO NOT LOVE having all the boys home….in the house….in the winter…..with 10 inches of snow on the ground…..and minus zero temps. Having 5 people stuck under one roof with no way to run off any amount of energy screams disaster for any mom but especially a mom of very energetic boys. The older two were literally jumping off the walls……and I mean literally climbing on the couch, putting their foot on the walls and jumping. They also decided to take everything out of their room and drop it all over the house so that it looked like a small tornado had invaded our home. Meal times resulted in food fights (because having manners at the table is entirely too boring) and arguing over pencils was about as intense as something you might see on Capitol Hill. Thankfully, we survived the week with only a few minor injuries. Logan ended up with a sore ankle (likely from jumping off the walls…as stated earlier) Mason ended up with a whole glop of toothpaste in his eye which resulted in half the day spent with a wet towel on his face (who knew teeth grew in our eyeballs) and Gavin had more than a few bumps to the head since he decided you are never too young to rough house with your brothers. Jared suffered from migraines in which he medicated with ear plugs and a lot of time spent sawing wood. I did not leave the house for 8 days (thank you, ice) and suffered from nothing short of insanity. Recovery remains unknown at this time.
Finally, on Friday the kiddos did go back to school only to be off for another weekend! Yikes! All joking aside, they did enjoy the snow (once it was warm enough to play in) and got to snowboard, sled and build some pretty epic snowmen. Gavin also got to play in the snow for the first time and while it was brief he enjoyed every minute. It’s still a bit too cold for little man and considering all of this warm snowsuits are way too small he was having a hard time being able to move in this thing I squeezed him into. I wish I looked this cute busting out of my clothes!
Sunday was my birthday and I got to spend it in the best way I know how. Me and the dudes went out to lunch, I had coffee and donuts with my bestie, and it ended with some snuggles on the couch with the hubs while watching the Oscars that were on crazy late. Was anyone else having a hard time staying awake???
This week we are back to a normal routine. Working, schooling and all that adult stuff. The boys had parent/teacher conferences this week and both got fabulous reports from their teachers. They always amaze me with how well they do in school and how much praise they get from their teachers. Every teacher my kids have ever had say they wish they could have 20 of them and I know coming from any teacher that is HUGE compliment. Those are always the moments you feel like you’re doing something right as a parent. Most days I feel like I’m screwing up monumentally. So as always I’m proud of our little men and know that while we have had a hand in their behavior I do feel like they are inherently good kids and that makes my job a whole lot easier.
Besides all that we are looking forward to Spring Break in 1.5 weeks. We are not going anywhere but hopefully the weather will be nice enough to get outside, get some spring cleaning done, and head to our local amusement park at the end of the week. Fingers crossed it isn’t still 10 degrees.
Hope your days are filled with yummy roses and iced coffee!! Happy Hump Day Everyone!!
