We had a jam packed weekend that was beyond exhausting but extremely fun. (That is the best kind of exhaustion…by the way)
Friday we took the day off of work (well I cheated and got about 2 hours in…off and on) and completed some yard and house work. We got a lot of projects done outside in preparation for a family packed weekend. Jared’s brother was coming to town for a quick visit. He is currently residing in Pennsylvania where he just graduated from Med school. He will be staying there for the next 3 years to complete his residency in Internal Medicine and after that…well it’s undecided but we are secretly hoping he finds himself closer to home.
Saturday proved to be as hot as the meteorologist had promised. Our backyard is full sun all day long so the activities were not for the faint of heart or those who did not lather on some sunscreen. All of Jared’s family came over to see Ryan (he only comes down about 1-2 times per year) and for some it was the first time to meet Gavin. We had lunch, dessert and lots of conversation. Some braved the heat and got a game of badminton going, while others sat on our new picnic tables for some chit-chat. Everyone started to disperse around 3:00 so the rest of the night was spent with just us and Ryan. The boys soaked up every last minute they could and all the guys ended the night with a hilarious game of badminton. I think we laughed more during that game than we have all laughed in over a year. I should have video-taped the whole “game” since it was definitely YouTube worthy. It truly was a really great day.
Sunday morning we sent Ryan on his way back to Pennsylvania. It’s always bittersweet when he leaves and the boys definitely miss him but hopefully it won’t be like that forever. My cousin and his family came over Sunday afternoon for a visit. The boys and their oldest daughter all had a fun game of water balloons and various other activities. Gavin and their second daughter Kaylee are 1 day shy of 8 weeks apart so they really enjoyed having crying wars, baby talk and seeing who could get food down their throats the fastest. They are both absolutely adorable and we are really excited to see how they interact as they get bigger.
It definitely took all the energy in the world to get out of bed this morning. Having such a full weekend with a 3 week old was definitely courageous but we survived and really did have a fantastic time. Any time spent with family is always worth the craziness.
Hope everyone had fantastically fabulous weekends!!
