Yes, you heard right this will be boy number three! This will also make the eleventh boy in my husbands family with no girls. It’s truly amazing how these things work. There is supposedly a 50/50 chance with gender but sometimes I think there might just be some other factors. Either that or his family has figured out the secret for boys and is committing sabotage on the poor women. However, either way, despite it being a boy I am still thrilled that the baby is healthy and growing and that I am blessed to create and witness yet another miracle in our lives. I have been given a gift that so many never get to experience and gender is not nearly as important as that.
Here are a few pics from this morning in anticipation of the ultrasound:
I painted my nails blue and pink but must admit I was a little unfair to the boy side of the equation. I painted my toes pink, wore pink socks and a purple scarf. But hey as a mom of (now) 3 boys a girl has got to do what a girl has to do. 🙂
Fast forward to the ultrasound and baby is exactly 18 weeks and 2 days and is weighing in at 9 ounces. He has all ten fingers and toes and enjoyed very much resting his feet on my full bladder and doing somersaults. He likes to sleep with his butt in the air and was unafraid to show the world his manly parts. I’ve never been so proud! 😉 We saw some swallowing and thumb sucking and I’m pretty sure he looked at me and waved. He knew who his momma was! Jared got the whole thing on videotape so we were able to show the boys. Finally they got to see our baby and not some foreign baby on youtube! haha. Finally got a reading on his heart rate which is pumping fast at 158 (which is unsurprising considering he is already a future NFL athlete with all the movement). Doctor said everything looks great except for currently my placenta is lying on top of my cervix which could mean a c-section if it decides not to move. She is unworried though and says this is common. Will have another ultrasound at 28 weeks to make sure said placenta has relocated somewhere else. It is not placenta previa and cervix, uterus and placenta are all healthy, plump and doing their job splendidly. After 2 extremely easy labors I’m really hoping not to have to go through a c-section. So fingers crossed!!
As is tradition me and the hubs went out and bought baby’s first outfit which always end up being his “going home outfit.” There was a limited selection at the store we chose but ended up with a few cute things. Here was the first one we chose as the “official” outfit.
I just can’t seem to get away from superheros in my life but hey I can think of worse things than watching a bunch of hunky men in the Avengers. I figured Superman would be fitting since any baby who survives and can manage birth deserves to be superman.
We rushed home to tell the boys who wanted me to wrap the clothes in a bag so they could open it and be surprised. I bought a pink bag and tissue paper hoping to perhaps throw them off. Honestly, I think they were so excited they didn’t even notice the color of the bag (mommy fail).
I was expecting Mason (my youngest) to be very excited since he swore up and down he would be happy with a boy or a girl. I was expecting Logan (my oldest) to be more distraught since he was very adamant about having a sister. However, what I got was the opposite. Logan was beyond thrilled and Mason burst into tears and ran under his bed in his room sobbing “I wanted a sister.” Poor guy was so heartbroken. However, after about half an hour he seemed to be coming around. I told him he could buy something for his brother and that seemed to cheer him up, slightly! (I was unable to get any good picture of their reactions since they were moving, and crying at the speed of light)
All in all it has been a roller coaster of emotions kind of day but we are thrilled to be having another boy added to the family. At this rate I will have my own NFL team before long! Happy New Years Eve everybody and hope everyone has an amazing year in 2014.
