We had a big day here in our household yesterday! Anyone who knows us knows that we love football and that every Sunday from September to February is dedicated to football once noon hits.
Football is more than a game full of technical jargon, pass plays and touchdowns. We love football for what it represents, the players it brings into our homes, the experiences it gives, the way it makes you believe that you can conquer anything, and most of all the memories that can be created with those around us. Many people think it’s ridiculous that we try our hardest to make sure we see our team play games every week, or that we try to spend as many games together (just the 4 almost 5 of us) as opposed to having people over or going to big parties all the time. Many say it’s an addiction, or excessive or over the top. However, while I respect and appreciate people’s opinions I know in my heart they have never felt the laughter bubble up when you watch your husband filled with the glee of a child because his team is finally going to the Super Bowl. Or the joy when you look at your kids and see how they actually enjoy spending time with mom and dad every Sunday as opposed to hanging out in their rooms or with someone else. Those who criticize haven’t spent 3 hours cuddling with their boys making up superstitious signs with their hands and face and anything else that can be crossed only to see it pay off with a huge touchdown and a ginormous smile from a child who thinks it actually worked. That is what I get from football. I get to spend time forgetting about the hatred, opinions and violence of others and watch athletes battle it out while still having fun. I see a field full of men who many have come from nothing, who through hard work, dedication, and a lot of courage made it to this point in life. I look at my sons and hope that they can someday understand and appreciate how a little courage and belief in yourself can truly make dreams come true. So, to me that’s what football is about…….it’s not “just” football.
Anyways, I shall climb down from my soap box!! 🙂
Yesterday, was an epically awesome day since after a gut wrenching end to the season last year we can officially say that the DENVER BRONCOS are SUPER BOWL BOUND!!!! WOOHOO!! I have been saying since last June, “If we don’t go this year we never will.” I believed that from day one and here we are. I knew we had the talent, chemistry, drive and a whole lot of motivation to get to that big game this year. It has been an awesome year of football all around and they playoffs were a lot of fun. I enjoy watching teams change and develop throughout the season and surprise many by getting into the playoffs. It’s much like the real story of life…..always full of twists and turns and lots of surprises. I am very happy for Peyton Manning and his whole family. I can’t even imagine the fight and hard work it has taken to continue to play at such a high level of performance after a devastating injury. The way he handles himself with such grace, class and humility is a breath of fresh air. All in all it’s a great opportunity for the whole team and our quarterback. So yes, February 2nd, will be here soon and you might just hear our screaming voices where you live!!
