For any of you beauty girls who just feel like a better and more amazing woman with your nails done….this post is for you. I personally have been obsessed with nail polish since I was able to have enough dexterity to control the brush with both hands. As I have gotten older I have enjoyed playing with new tricks to make fun nail art, funky colors and customizable prints. However, since I have a professional career now I usually have to stick with just a solid color, but that’s okay, it brings me just as much joy! 🙂
As every girly-girl knows having your nails done just makes you feel put together. I know when I was a new mom and my hair was messy, bags were camped out under my eyes, and dressing up was donning sweatpants and a t-shirt….having my nails done made me feel put together. A lot of people see our nails throughout the day and it’s important to look properly groomed and like we take care of ourselves. In my years of painting my nails, I have tried every brand and type of color under the sun. My biggest battle was the polish just not lasting long enough. I mean it’s a lot of work to paint your nails and it takes a while out of your day to sit and let them dry. Plus, who can afford a manicure every week at a salon? Not this girl. So if you have given up on pretty nails due to chipping, smears, and a manicure that is only pretty for a day… I am about to change your world.
Here are my top products for your nails and they are all cheap, affordable and at every drugstore and Wal-Mart around.
It’s important to use a base coat so that the nail polish has something to adhere to besides just your nail. It also allows the actual color polish to glide on smoothly and prevent air bubbles and unsightly smudges. I recommend Revlon Colorstay Quick Dry Base Coat. It looks like it is an ivory color but it actually goes on clear. It literally dries in about 30 seconds so is a quick and simple step to add to your manicure that will have a huge payoff in the end. I use this for both toes and fingers. Next product you must get is going to be located on the same shelf as the Base Coat. I recommend Revlon Colorstay Extra Life No Chip Top Coat. I swear this is the golden ticket. I can use this with my favorite brand of nail polish (see below) or any brand and it allows the polish to stay on for days. It’s amazing and stays shiny so that your manicure looks fresh for many days. Both of these items are around $4.97 and they last a long time depending on how often you paint your nails.
The next step is choosing the right color and the right brand. Like I said, I have tried them all and my absolute favorite is….you guessed it…..Revlon Colorstay. This stuff is amazing and it works so well with the top coat and base coat that it provides a long lasting awesome looking manicure for days. Using these three products I can get a manicure to last about a week with only one touch up of top coat. At about 3-4 days in I will quickly apply one more layer of top coat (which will fully dry in about 5 minutes) and it will last another 3-4 days. Plus, the magic is that I work in health care and am washing my hands 100 times a day and using hand sanitizer before, inside, and after I leave every patient’s room. Needless to say that is A LOT of disturbance to my polished nails. Hand sanitizer and hand washing are the number one culprits for causing chips. Amazingly enough, this stuff still holds up.
I am not a Revlon ambassador or anything…just a woman who was tired of chipped nails. One other tip I would recommend is to keep your nails short. Not only does it prevent injuries to other people but it keeps the tips of the nails from being beaten and battered all day on objects which can also chip away at the polish. However, if you like long nails….it’s okay just reapply that top coat after a few days.
Hope you all have a great summer displaying those beautiful fingers!!! 🙂
