Weekends around here always seem to take on a personality of their own when you have 3 crazy boys. On the days that I’m still standing on two feet and not bruised from head to toe, I do a superman pose before going to bed because quite frankly it’s an impressive feat.
To say our life is bursting at the seems right now would be an understatement. Business is absolutely booming and exceeding anything we could have ever imagined. It’s time to expand, majorly, but we barely have time to pee let alone do the logistics of expanding at the moment. But hey – all good problems. The kids are suffering from what I like to call the end of summer virus. They’re ready to get back to school, yet super into the relaxation of summer which really just equals out to fighting non-stop and running around like a bunch of medieval vikings. (Wait….were vikings medieval?) Nevertheless, somehow the house still functions and everyone is happy, healthy and wearing clean clothes. So because I have so much free time I always end up piling on a major project for myself. I’ve been remodeling our bedroom and started the bathroom yesterday. And when I say re-modeling I really mean fresh paint and new decor all around. An official re-modeled bathroom will happen someday – probably when I’m old and grey. Hoping to finish up in the next couple of days, however, it’s amazing how a re-do can really provide the rest and relaxation one needs at the end of the day. I’m loving it (sang to the tune of the McDonald’s motto)
Yesterday, while stopping for a few groceries and an afternoon Starbucks pick me up – we entered into official toddlerhood. I made the grave mistake of getting the coffee first (before groceries) which meant that the little monster saw the bright green straw and drink and went crazy. He was hellbent on having some java and when I had to try to hide it behind my purse and situate it without it spilling all over the place he lost his marbles. By the time we had gotten situated I was in the wine aisle and he went nuts. We’ve always said Mason was our loudest baby/toddler but I think Gavin broke the records yesterday. Boy, was he mad. His little soul just couldn’t understand the injustice of him not getting coffee. I ignored the tantrum and was having to bend over to “inspect” the wine on the bottom shelf just so he wouldn’t see me laughing. No, most mothers don’t laugh during tantrums but his facial expressions were so hilarious and honestly he was verbalizing how i’ve been feeling the last 11 days without coffee. For real, son, “I understand how you feel.” Me just want some joe! Tantrum only lasted about 45 seconds before we were on to search for waffles (his favorite) and I realized that we had officially reached the toddler phase. Induction is over!
The rest of the weekend was spent wrapping, taping, swabbing and band-aiding various injuries from the ninjas that occupy my household. Logan and Mason are obsessed with Ninja Warrior on TV and have decided to use our tree as their course. This involves a lot of jumping onto branches and swinging like monkeys before dismounting into the mulch. The trick is to avoid the landscaping bricks and not break a leg. Good Mothers would probably not allow such impending disasters to occur but I pretty much just tell them that I don’t have time to take them to the ER today so they best be careful. #winning They both have torn blistery skin on both hands (which I also warned them about – but do they listen – nope) and a few cuts on their legs. Since they’re used to such injuries they don’t bother them unless they’re needing some attention and then watch out – that scab they got a week ago is all of a sudden as painful as a woman giving birth. Whoever said boys aren’t dramatic never had boys. Haha
This weekend my best friend gets married and it’s sure to be an adventure since we live in Missouri and weather is always unpredictable. I’ll be leaving the boys for 2 days so I’m pretty sad and a little stressed. It’s always hard to leave kids, especially, Gavin who is pretty attached right now. I’m just going to tell myself it will be good for them and they’ll not grow 5 inches while I’m away – although they probably will.
Happy Monday, Friends!
