Woosh….It’s Monday and we are pretty exhausted around here. We had a great weekend full of fun and surprises.
Friday night we had a birthday party for my cousin at their new house. My Aunt and Uncle just built a beautiful new home and it was so nice to finally see my Aunt get her dream house. We had a great time playing games, talking, laughing and I hear the food was delicious. Arriving home at midnight was adventurous for the boys but they were quite cranky waking up the next morning. Glad adults aren’t the only ones who need sleep! 😉
The Broncos played in St. Louis this weekend and the boys had really wanted to go. They have never been to a football game before and their chances of seeing Peyton Manning in person is definitely dwindling. (I mean he is superhuman but I don’t think he will play forever) Unfortunately, we were not going to be able to afford tickets so the boys were pretty disappointed. As soon as Mommy guilt set in a gift from my brother n law appeared on my desk in the form of 4 Game Tickets. I honestly was so touched I cried for nearly 24 hours straight. We wanted to keep the whole thing a surprise for the boys so we told them we were going to take them to St Louis to see the arch and have a fun day since we couldn’t afford the game. They were completely sold on the idea and never once got suspicious. Getting anything over Logan is quite the ordeal since he is so smart so I was pleasantly surprised when he didn’t question any of the events.
Sunday morning we woke up bright and early ready to hit the road on our way to St. Louis. Gavin stayed behind with my bestie and had a great time. I was so worried about leaving him all day….worried for her..not him but he was amazing. (Or so she says) haha I was so relieved and I think I may have started a small bit of baby fever! (Sorry, Lara)
The weather was great driving there…cold but hardly any traffic and we made great time. The boys did great with the drive and entertained themselves singing and going over our “itinerary” for the day. Man we had these kids so fooled!! 😉
We struggled to find parking for the game since we were 2 dollars short of all the places to park. Of course they only took cash so trying to find an ATM in the middle of a road construction happy, very crowded city is extremely difficult. We finally parked and headed to the dome. The arch is very close to the dome so it appeared we were walking to that instead of the game. I was pretty sure the kids were gonna figure out what was going on since the crowd was filled with broncos fans heading into the stadium. But they didn’t. Then we went through security and got into the stadium to start our trek to the nose bleeds….I definitely thought they would figure it out then…..but they didn’t. They totally thought we were heading up to the top of the arch. In my head I’m thinking “Man, this is just too good.” We kept our upward trek up the escalators and at one moment I thought I might cry and ruin the whole thing. I’m normally not an emotional person but something about the anticipation of seeing the excitement on their faces was enough to make me bawl like a baby. Thankfully, I held myself together.
We finally found our section and headed into the opening of the stadium. As soon as those kids saw the field their whole world pretty much completely changed. Logan tried to act cool but was secretly dying with excitement and Mason was literally speechless. We found our seats and they finally realized what we were doing. Logan nearly had a heart attack (not sure if this was from excitement or the fact that his parents tricked him) haha. He kept saying “You two are tricksters!” Yes, we are son….yes, we are.
The game was terrible….and I mean we played terrible. I felt bad cause the kids didn’t get to see any good football but they both had such a great time and were so excited to see their Broncos out on the field. We were surrounded by Broncos fans which was a nice change and only had one jerk to deal with. There is always one.
The drive home took a lot longer since it was snowing and nasty but about 2 hours in we hit clear weather and were good from there. I am so thankful and happy we got to take the kids and that everything worked out perfectly….well minus the loss. 🙂 But hey you can’t win them all and it was still A LOT of fun. They both said it was the “best day ever” and Logan is already wanting to go back. I told him to save his pennies for a trip to Denver!!
Hope you all had fabulous weekends too!!
