Here are some of my favorite products to make the newborn days a little easier. These are tried and true products that I have used with all 3 of my boys and would recommend them for any new mommy. As usual I try to find affordable products….or if they are higher priced they must be worth the dollar amount. I included baby products, breastfeeding essentials and some bottle feeding supplies. Hope you all find this helpful and find these products make your life a little easier too.
Boppy Pillow: Great for breastfeeding/bottle feeding and also laying baby down next to you on the couch. This also grows with baby and can be used for tummy time, sitting up and other positions as they get older. The covers are washable and very portable for travel.
Tommie Tippie Bottles: I am loving these bottles right now. I breastfeed and give my son pumped milk with these bottles and he has yet to have any problems. They are designed to help eliminate gas and they even have a line specifically made for babies with colic. They are easy to grip, lightweight and easy to clean. They also have slow/medium/fast nipples that grow with your child’s needs. You can usually always find them on sale for B1G1 50% off which makes stocking up a breeze.
Soothie Pacifiers: All 3 of my boys had a pacifier but would only take these soothie binkies. I don’t know why or what it is about them but they refused any other pacifier besides these. They are high quality and come in different sizes to match your child’s little mouth. They hold up really well, even with teething babies.
Medela Advanced Breast Pump: I’ve raved about this before but it’s been a life saver the past 2 weeks. If you are going to spend money definitely spend it on the pump. This is easy to use, comfortable and takes way less time than any other pump I’ve ever used. It comes with everything you need and it beats manually pumping for an hour only to have squeezed out a few drops of milk…..So frustrating! Save yourself the heartache and frustration and invest in a great pump.
Lanisoh nursing pads and cream: These are the best quality at an affordable price and they will save you from a whole lot of pain and discomfort. Stock up on lanolin cream cause I promise you will likely need it!
Fenugreek: This herb is said to promote milk supply. For some women it boosts milk production up to 600%!! Wowza. It has worked for me but not that crazily. It is said to be safe for both mom and baby, however, some side effects can be lower blood sugars and digestive problems. If this occurs back off the dosage or stop taking for a few days. This is great for pumping moms who are trying to build a supply or supplement feedings.
Sports Nursing Bra: This is the first time I bought a sports nursing bra and man am I loving the support and fit. Traditional bras work okay but I feel as the breasts grow and change with milk production they can fit funkily. I’m loving how the sports bra is supportive and tight no matter what the size and gives me the boost I need after having 3 kids.
Double pump bra: You can purchase these to help double pump hands free (which is a huge life and time saver)….however, I just took an old bra and cut holes in the middle and used that. These bras run around 35 dollars a pop which is pretty pricey. I made mine for free….so get creative and see what you have laying around before purchasing!
Muslin Swaddling blankets: I made my own with cotton gauze and I love them. They are perfect for summer time with the hotter days. Baby can be covered up without overheating. They are also stretchy and slightly bigger than the traditional swaddling blankets. This makes it much easier to swaddle and I’m pretty sure it’s much more comfortable for baby.
Red lightbulb: This sounds crazy but after a lot of research I saw that a red lightbulb is the best to use at night during feedings. I put one in my lamp and it has worked really great. It definitely gives enough light to see what you’re doing at 3 in the morning but is calming and not stimulating to the baby. The only downside is your neighbors might think you have turned your house into some kind of brothel with all the red light madness in the middle of the night. Haha
All of these products can be found at stores like Target, Toys R Us, Walmart and other major chains. Or if you’re an online shopper, like me, then cyberspace is your oyster and you’ll have full reign of designs and options with all of these products.
