So I have been wanting to “fix” my hair for a long time now. I had natural golden blonde hair growing up and then after baby #1 it darkened to a dirty ashy blonde color. I lived with it for a while but felt like I was kind of stuck between colors on the color wheel. I wasn’t really blonde and wasn’t really brown. So I decided to go darker and see what it was like to live as a brunette. I started out a couple shades darker and really liked the results. I then went back to blonde a few years later and ended up being platinum which was not what I wanted. (Hair stylist mistake number one)
I could only stand looking like a bad version of a Playboy bunny for only enough months to repair my hair when I went back to dark. Over the last 4 years I have been dark and I think my stylist was going darker and darker every time I went in because before I knew it my hair was pretty much black. (Hair stylist mistake number two) The dark looked okay with my pale skin tone and brown eyes but it was bland and didn’t give my complexion a whole lot of life. However, I got a lot of compliments on it and I knew that going lighter would cost an arm and a leg so I kept it.
Fast forward to September of last year when I found out I was pregnant. I don’t color my hair while pregnant so my ashy roots have been taking over. In an attempt to make the skunk like stripe I had on the top of my head a little less obvious I went and got highlights in November. I went to a new salon since I felt the need to depart ways with my old stylist. I ended up with caramel highlights all over and while it did add a little pizazz it was very stripy and not at all the color of my ever growing roots. I pretty much gave up all hope and was considering shaving my head!
Finally, in a stroke of luck I found a hair stylist here locally while browsing on my Groupon app. It was a great deal for coloring so I decided to take the plunge. I scheduled just a cut since my hair was taking on lions mane proportions and discussed my color horrors with her. She laughed and assured me she could get me back to my natural color within 2 sessions and with a lot of ease. Plus, she was offering a 50% deal for the month of February so I could save my Groupon for the second session. Score for me!
I went back last week and she put in some BEAUTIFUL blond highlights (we didn’t want to do all over color due to pregnancy). Next session we will finish out the highlights and be all the way back to the blonde. I was already in love with the haircut and then the color turned out so much better than I had expected. I was amazed at how it changed my whole complexion!!
You can still see the dark and the light is making my hair look more red than usual but it is definitely lighter!! Hooray. I go back about 4 weeks before baby gets here so that I can finish the color and get a fresh cut before delivery and the first tiresome months.
Anyways, I know nobody really cares too much about my hair and it’s journey but just in case someone does….there ya have it!! 😉
Hope you are all doing awesomely and getting some warmer weather! We are looking forward to a 70 degree day tomorrow!! WOOHOO
