Height/Weight: 25 pounds exactly! My arms are getting some serious definition lugging this giant beast around. I’m not sure about the height but he is VERY tall for his age.
Routine: Our routine hasn’t changed too much. Although, since he is getting older he is definitely starting to adapt it to his “grown up” needs. He is making his naps a bit shorter and his playtime longer….cause who doesn’t want to explore! Otherwise, we are adapting slowly and not getting too crazy with changes.
Sleeping: He is sleeping through the night off and on. It is becoming a little more consistent the past couple of days but I’m not holding my breath for any permanent changes. 85% of the time he is still waking up at least once and sometimes twice. I do try to avoid feeding him and I have let him cry it out several times but this kid is definitely a long winded one and will cry and cry for over an hour. Listening to howling at 2 in the morning for that long is enough to give me an anxiety attack. So depending on how I feel at said 2am determines if I get up and just put him back to bed after a bottle or let him scream his head off.
Eating/Feeding: Considering his weight (listed above) he still
likes LOVES to eat. He is pretty tired of his formula and really just prefers ‘real’ food. Now with this momma cooking there isn’t a whole lot of ‘real’ food being made. More like the basics (i.e. chili, spaghetti, chicken and veggies). However, with a little blending and some help of beechnut baby food he is plenty satisfied. He is eating oatmeal in the mornings and before bed, vegetables and fruits for lunch and whatever we have for dinner. He takes about 3-4 bottles a day but sometimes just isn’t that interested. I have tried some juice (apple and pear) and he of course gobbles it down but I don’t give him too much at the moment….just enough to make him want more. Mwahahah! He is also eating crackers and puffs and other easily breakable easily dissolvable crackery things. Hooray for being able to feed himself a little bit.
Sizes: The giant is in giant people clothes. He is in mostly 18 month clothes now and I’m debating on whether to go shopping right now or not. He is busting out of his clothes but I hate to buy a bunch of winter stuff with spring just around the corner. Soooo it’s a dilemma I’m hoping I can fix by keeping him indoors, wrapped in blankets and snuggled by the vents. Haha. Still hanging on strong with size 4 diapers although 5 would probably be better. However, I have a stock of size 4 I’m trying to use up so for now we are sticking with it.
Milestones: Still sleeps with his blanket over his head. He will now put everything over his head as a sign he is sleepy. Toys, pillows, blankets, towels…it’s all a clue once he starts trying to drape it on his big ole head. (see picture below of elmo over the head) He LOVES music of any kind and is starting to dance and realize the beauty of beats. We may have a little Usher on our hands cause he does have some pretty impressive movies. He goes to sleep to a mixture of music. Some of
our his Pandora favorites include Boyce Avenue, Piano Guys, Jonsi, Classical Piano, and on the really eventful days he gets some Backstreet Boys/NSYNC/98 degrees mix. Hey Mom’s gotta share the boy band love with someone! (Side note: did anyone else see BSB on the Today Show Tuesday??? My heart still beats for them even at the ripe old age of almost 27! I die…) Anyways, back to the munchkin…..he is also discovering TV and loves him some PBS action. He doesn’t really get to watch much but when I’m trying to keep him awake or keep him occupied for a second it does come in handy. There is no crawling yet but he is trying to get up on his knees…just hasn’t quite figure out how to lift them towards his belly yet. He get all the way up on his arms and is still sitting like a champ. He has also figured out how to scoot on his diaper to grab toys are things that are just out of reach. Yup, moving is definitely in our future although I’m not quite convinced he is going to crawl at all. I could see him just skipping that step altogether. He also get his first tooth this month…..FINALLY. I have proof of the sharp little booger below as well.
Favorite Toys: He is discovering lots of new toys now that he is exploring more. He is loving his wooden blocks at the moment…not for stacking but for the other purpose of chewing. He also likes anything with sounds and lights and enjoys pushing all the buttons (or at least figuring out what all those knobby things do). Stuffed animals (his moose and raccoon) are a must during nap time (although he isn’t allowed to have them at night for safety reasons) and he really enjoys anything soft against his skin.
Favorite Moment: At this age there are so many but the other day he had me rolling. He got the hiccups for the first time and he was laughing so hard. He thought it was the funniest thing. Every hiccup would just roll him into more laughter. We were all just dying..it was the cutest. He also enjoys playing peek-a-boo. I’ll look over and he will be shielding his eyes and then waiting for a peek-a-boo. This also results in lots of little giggles. Plus, he is learning that the world looks very different when your head is hung to the side. He even likes to eat like this. I’m pretty sure he just realizes that he gets a big laugh or smile out of mommy so why not continue. Silly boy!
Can’t believe he is 8 months old already. Time is of course flying by way too quickly. I know Spring, his first birthday and the kids ending school will be here before I know it. So many moments to soak up and so little time….story of my life! Enjoy those babies!
