I haven’t done a Friday Favorites post in a while so thought it was past due. Even though we work through the weekends there is something about Friday that still screams the end of a long week. Saturday mornings are my favorite since we allow ourselves about one hour to just veg and take it easy. Amazing how I used to take whole weekends off for granted. Relief is on the very near horizon and hoping this will be our last weekend that we have to work….well at least all of it. I can’t even tell you how excited that thought makes all of us. (This kid is excited…..and this mess is definitely excited for some housework help)
So let’s start off with some food favorites because who doesn’t love to talk about food. My go to recipes for fall include this Beef Stew Recipe, this made from scratch cheddar broccoli soup, our go to once a week White Chicken Chili and my absolute favorite soup (that I rave about ALL.THE.TIME) this wild rice soup. Plus, it’s the skinny version so what’s not to love. I’m also really wanting to try a homemade pie this year (since I’ve never attempted anything so brave) so am looking forward to some farmers market apples and hoping that something that somewhat resembles a pie comes out of the oven. Eeeek!!!
Broncos game is another primetime game Sunday night so of course my oldest is counting down the days. I got all of their really cute Broncos shirts here and I felt like (all things considering) they were pretty affordable. It can be really hard to find cheaper NFL gear so I was pleased with this purchase.
I am looking forward to hitting up some festivals and pumpkin patches in the next couple weeks. I’m also planning a trip to our local theme park since we have passes we have barely gotten to use. Mason’s birthday is coming up in 26 days and I HAVE NO CLUE what I’m doing or what we are planning. I’ve had about 20 ideas but nothing seemed that great at the end of the day and he was less than enthusiastic about all of them. We may end up just doing something the 5.5 of us can do and calling it a day. My youngest sister turns 16 in 2 weeks and I feel like I’ve been waiting for this birthday since the dawn of time…..or maybe it’s just the license part. haha.
Halloween costumes have arrived and we are all ready to go, one month early. Everyone knows that I’m a self proclaimed Amazon whore in that it’s one of the only places I shop and let me just say they have the best selection of halloween costumes. The stores are often limited in selection, or if you do find one you like you can’t find the size. I never have this problem on amazon so I love it. Plus, if you’re doing your own costume it’s great for all the accessories needed to pull the look together. I won’t give anything away but we have one superhero, one definite halloween themed villain and a pixar character soooooo….let your mind run wild, folks. In the meantime if this last little bed bug turns out to be the oh so miraculous girl….this costume is so in her future. I may have been lusting over it for years…….I die!!!
As for fall fashion, well I’m dipping into the button down plaid shirt thing because I can wear them over something more stretchy for the growing belly. I’ve never been a really big plaid girl for many reasons but I feel like blue doesn’t scream rodeos and hay in my hair. (nothing wrong with that….just not my style) I bought Gavin the cutest little boots the other day that I’m excited for him to get to tromps around in once cooler weather hits and I found a really great deal on Amazon for these mens boots that I’m thinking I’ll snatch up for Jared for Christmas. He’s been looking for a pair for years, it seems like.
Speaking of Christmas, I must say I am completely done shopping for everyone in this household. It’s been a rough week for us and for some reason the other night I decided that getting Christmas shopping done would be just the right therapy. I think the mailman thinks I’m saving up for the zombie apocalypse with all the packages he has been bringing every day but seriously I can’t even tell you how relieved I am. Things are crazy right now and the holiday season gets even crazier so I don’t want the stress of having to shop around Christmas time. Nope…who has time for that. Just as a completely tacky move and because I’m going to be one of those people…..if you too are thinking about Christmas gifts be sure to look up our etsy shop at Diva Display. Bet the woman in your life would appreciate something unique…..and honestly even if you don’t buy a darn thing from us I do encourage you all to shop small this holiday season. The ones filling your orders spend an insane amount of time, energy and love in what they make and I assure you you’ll have something nobody else does. Makes a gift even more special.
Gavin’s new favorite activity is splashing his hands around in the toilet bowl. He is the most mischievous little devil and finds it so very enjoyable. Due to the amount of time I spend in the bathroom washing him off I have begun to think about potty training. I’d love to have it done before bed bug comes in April but I was never much successful with any of my boys under 2. Let’s face it boys are major LAZY!! However, when the time comes I plan on purchasing the BabyBjorn potty chair. I’ve heard really great things about them and it’s gotten rave reviews. Plus, the price is great and I’m not really willing to spend too much on something my child is peeing and pooping in.
Happy Friday, friends and hope you all have really great weekends filled with relaxation, family time and perfect weather!!
