I know it’s been a while since I have done a general update so the time has come. December has been insanely busy and it has also brought all sorts of highs, sleep deprivation, viruses and runny noses.
We started out with a bang in the form of pink eye…courtesy of Mason Man. Kindergarten has been full of germs which have all magically decided that they want in on the Harris household fun. Even after 2 days off from school, antibiotics, obsessive hand washing, and following our 6 year old wiping his every move with a clorox wipe…… pink eye proved she was Queen of the Germ Mountain and spread like wildfire. Jared ended up with it second, Gavin third and of course I couldn’t not join in on the fun. Logan was the only one that managed to get away unscathed but I think he had a small, small case of it before Mason got it so maybe he was old news to those little demon pink eye monsters. After having the dreaded stomach bug and pink eye I was ready to say a grand goodbye to all things sickness related but alas it would not be. We all came down with colds that turned into coughs. With me and Jared pulling 16 hour days with work there was no hope for ever getting better. We finally got caught up with work and were looking forward to our first day off in 4 months, with nothing to do, when I came down with strep throat. I guess I got my wish to just lay around but I was quarantined to our bedroom for 2 days with strict instructions to not be around any of the kids. I had severe and highly contagious strep so wasn’t able to have any little boy kisses or snuggles for 48 hours. That was AWFUL!!! I’m pretty sure I would have 12 children in one day over strep. It sucked! We are now finally getting somewhat better. I’m finishing up my antibiotics and Gavin is finally getting over a nasty cough he has had for 2 weeks. Fingers crossed these little germ creatures leave this house and go bug someone else for a while. Yuck!!
I ventured out end of Day 2 and Gavin had missed me so much he laid his head on my slipper and just stared at me for the longest time. It was the sweetest thing in the whole entire world!!
Meanwhile, Mason made a gingerbread house on the last day of school, Gavin decided he liked watching tv backwards and we have mastered the selfie in front of the Christmas tree. Can I get a woop woop?!?!
We have also been catching up on Christmas books, Logan’s been giving drum tutorials, and me and Gavin have been partying late into the night…every….night.
My mother turned 50 last weekend so she had a small surprise party complete with family, pizza and games. My cousin Lucas was there and he is what we like to call “the child whisperer.” Every kid is obsessed with him and loves him as soon as they see him. Gavin also got introduced to his first little dog and thought that was quite exciting. Mom was pretty nervous about this birthday but has handled it like a champ. 50 is the new 30, right? In honor of her bday here is a throwback photo from family pics we had taken 2 years ago.
Last Monday we had my family christmas with my family. The boys were absolutely showered with gifts that nearly stacked to the ceiling. They were beyond spoiled but got a lot of cool stuff and a lot of stuff they needed. Score for us!! In keeping with tradition we had pasta and all the fixings and some yummy desserts. Logan was running a fever most of the day and I began coming down with strep around 5 that night so fought through some body aches and chills but overall it was a fun day and always nice to have everyone in the same place…which doesn’t happen very often.
Gavin got to open his first gifts and decided that the wrapping paper was much more exciting and appetizing than the gifts themselves. This also happens to be his favorite pastime at the doctors office. PAPER!! Who knew kids would love it so much.
Christmas Day was amazing around here. For the first time ever the boys woke me up at 1 am shaking me and saying, “Mom, Christmas is here.” I turned on my alarm only to see a giant 1 on my screen. I said, “Christmas never arrives at 1 in the morning. Go to bed and come back at 7.” Surprisingly, there was no argument and they shuffled back to bed. I’m pretty sure they were still half asleep. However, when I got up a short time later to feed Gavin I noticed they had already sorted all the presents and stockings….crazy nuts! They didn’t end up waking until closer to 8 so we got a little extra sleep (which is much needed these days since Gavin is up all night with the nasty cough). We didn’t do many presents this year since, quite frankly, the boys have enough stuff and they didn’t really want much this year. They got games, books, some arts and crafts stuff and a new pitching machine. Their big gift was a new 3DS for each boy. Logan got red and Mason got blue….because well they just can’t have anything else. These were courtesy of “Mrs. Clause” who the kids are convinced is ZZ. No arguing with that. Haha! Gavin got in on the fun of the DS madness but decided that chewing everything in sight was more fun. We spent the day playing games, watching Home Alone, Elf and other movies. We did absolutely NOTHING all day and it was glorious. Definitely, a day I would like to repeat very soon in the near future.
Saturday night we babysat my cousin’s baby Kaylee which meant I got some much needed baby girl time. She is such a cutie and her and the boys had a great time. Her and Gavin shared spit and drool and scooted all over the floor together. The older two also had quite the time with a “girl” in the house. They had Kaylee laughing pretty hard at one point. It was adorable. They really do need a sister but unfortunately you can’t just pick those things out of a jar. Oh well, maybe they’ll get some more girl cousins someday.
Sunday was football day and the last day of the regular season. We clinched a first round bye and will face either the Bengals or the Colts in 2 weeks. Playoffs here we come!! Fingers crossed we do okay. I spent the majority of our game looking at wedding dresses with my best friend who is getting married next summer. We finalized everything this morning before she moved to Florida this afternoon. So excited for her big day and she is going to look absolutely stunning!!
Monday is back which means it’s back to work, detoxing from all the crap I ate last week and heading back to the gym. Can’t wait for my sister from another mister to get back cause gym time is horrid when you’re by yourself. haha. Meanwhile, we’ll be hanging out over here catching Z’s and playing with our feet!
Hope you all had very Merry Christmas’ and enjoy the final celebrations in the form of New Years. Stay safe and have fun!!
