Christmas has come and gone all too fast. I know it will be Christmas 2016 so very fast as the years seem to be flying by quicker and quicker these days. This holiday season as a whole was probably one of our worst just because we really didn’t get to enjoy the season. Our poor kids didn’t get to do any of our usual things like see the lights, go to our local theme park, visit Santa or really anything. We didn’t do any baking until Christmas Eve and by then they were all so cranky I’m not sure anyone got any enjoyment out of it. haha. I feel a little guilty about it but then again realize that it wasn’t our fault and work had to be done. We are a little over a year into our business and these are always the hardest years with the most sacrifices. It won’t always be like this and I think the kids understand that as much as they can.
Christmas Day was our first and only day off we have allowed ourself in a while. Our goal was the same one we had last year which was to spend the day doing absolutely NOTHING. No driving, no going anywhere, no work, no plans, no nothing. It was positively glorious!!! Getting dressed and showered was completely optional and I’m not even certain the boys even brushed their teeth. Gross, right?! LOL
Much to our surprise everyone slept in until 7:45 which was shocking since every other Christmas has always started before 6. The boys made out like bandits getting everything on their lists. They got broncos jerseys, broncos hats, new tennis shoes, pokemon and football cards, books, and lots of other things. Their Uncle got them a foosball table to go in our new and improved “Boys Space” we are creating in the basement. They have pretty much played that nonstop since we got it. The ping pong table will be in next week, the dart board needs to get on the wall and a TV and couch will also find it’s way there in the near future. I’m really excited to give them a space that they can grow into and enjoy when they’re teenagers and want to have friends over. No one wants to hang out playing cards with mom and dad at 16 so hopefully they’ll enjoy some freedoms and fun down there. Plus, I’m pretty sure Jared is even more excited than they are and has been playing out his teenage years on that foosball table the past couple of days. HAHAHAHA! In a quick side note, Gavin got his very own Elsa Doll and boy was he excited!!
After opening presents we enjoyed a leisure breakfast…at the kitchen table….which is the first time we have all eaten at the table since the day before Thanksgiving. It was nice and definitely makes me appreciate the little things in life. The rest of the day we watched movies, played with the toys, ate too much crap and didn’t move too much. Again, glorious!!!
Christmas always used to be spent with my mother n law, who passed away, nearly 3 years ago so there isn’t a Christmas that goes by that we don’t spend talking and laughing about her. Yesterday, in true fashion she made her presence known at breakfast when a random white feather appeared on Jared’s hoodie sleeve. White feathers have been popping up on big occasions, since she passed away, to both us and my brother n law. It was sweet and comforting and truly was the best Christmas gift we could have gotten. 🙂
It’s back to work today and the rest of the weekend but things will slow down a bit and hopefully we can get back on a better routine now that the holiday madness is over. I miss my husband terribly and am ready to relax, get this house in order, the nursery done and get ready to add the final member of our family in just 14.5 short weeks. This time next year we will be complete, whole and will have started a whole new book full of really great things. I’m very much looking forward to it.
Hope you all had wonderful Christmas’ with your families and friends!! Now onto the NEW YEAR!!
