Well, friends, it happened. My youngest little minion followed in his brother’s footsteps and grew up on me. The horror and betrayal!! 😉
To say the past year has flown by would be an understatement. I swear it really was the fastest one yet. I blinked and he was 1 and I’m not sure I’m terribly happy about it. Haha. Actually, all joking aside, I really am excited for all the new things one will bring and watching him develop and grow even more. It’s always an adventure, no matter what the phase.
We celebrated a day early and had a donut party Saturday night…..because we always need an excuse to have donuts. Family came and thankfully the weather was really nice so we got to soak up some much needed Vitamin D after all the rain we have been having. The older kids and adults played a baseball game, while the toddlers fought over the bubbles and kept us busy chasing them around all areas of the backyard.
Boden enjoyed his cake immensely and those little donut holes. He wasn’t quite sure which to eat first…donuts or cake but he eventually decided all social manners had gone out the window and he was allowed to indulge however he wished. Once the icing got too thick on his hands and his stomach started to rumble with the sugar onslaught he decided he had had enough of festivities. A screaming bath ensued shortly after and he only lasted about another hour before he decided sleeping was exactly how he wanted to finish out the party. Hey, it’s my party and I’ll sleep if I want to. 😉
I almost shed a tear laying him down that night and took moment to kissy his head and truly remember what an amazing first year we have had. I wanted to bottle that moment up forever but he was giving me that look of “Mom, seriously I’m tired and you’re sitting there staring at me like a fool. Run a long now.” Ahhh the pains of toddlerhood.
But really we are all good and as I type this he is screaming his head off so there are many things I am looking forward to in the future. Less screaming for starters. Well at least this kind of screaming. Lord knows, my oldest two scream like a bunch of girls whenever they’re fighting. Sigh…the drama!
His actual birthday (Sunday) we went out for a frozen custard bar (for the kids) coffee (for the adults cause #fourboys) and then spent an hour at the park swinging and sliding in all directions. Topped it off with more baseball outside and me attempting to keep the littles from eating dead worms off the concrete. Gross.
All in all we had a great weekend and really enjoyed taking a moment to celebrate one of our kids. I always enjoy just pausing and taking a chance celebrate each of our unique little people that make up this family. Love them to the moon and back.
Happy Birthday my sweet boy. Now you may stop growing so fast!
