It’s been a doozy over here the past week in the form of “everything going to pot all at once.” Thank you Universe for your generosity.
I started getting sick last Tuesday but felt okay so didn’t think too much of it. By Thursday I was running a fever and spent an hour waiting for a nurse practitioner to see me. Once in she was more interested in educating me on all the instruments they were using instead of just telling me what I had. I used to use all those instruments daily in my career as a therapist so wanted to tell her to move along but was feeling too sick to care. I was deathly worried about the fever since I’m pregnant and fevers can be harmful to babies. She again didn’t seem too rattled by such things. After 45 minutes of learning about the pulse ox and ruling out strep (which I already knew I didn’t have) I learned I have a severe upper respiratory virus. I am unable to take anything for it so was sent home and told to gargle salt water. My fever finally disappeared yesterday but I’ve been left with chest congestion and a horrible cough that practically gives me a concussion due to the force. At one point I was pretty sure my uterus was gonna come up through my throat but so far has stayed where it belongs. Hoping I’m on the tail end. In the meantime I need to find me a new family doctor since my other went off to Africa and has left me going to these clinics. No bueno. I’m also not sure why my kids enjoy taking pics of me sleeping but every time I’m sick or something I find pics of me doing so on my phone. They always think they are being so sneaky. I can just imagine their little giggles and smirks as they cracked through mommy’s phone and took a picture of her. Little rug rats! So I guess thanks to them you get a sick picture. Way better than the one of me coughing my guts out. Hahahahahah
At the same time as all of this is happening Jared had to stay home due to a work injury in his right wrist that was showing no signs of getting better. It looked horrible on Friday and he has literally been walking and sitting with his hand above his head to reduce the inflammation. He thought I was crazy for suggesting such things at first but darn if it didn’t go down. Now he knows who’s boss! 😉 He’s back at work today but not doing much but supervising and answering questions. One advantage of owning the business for sure.
We celebrated Mason’s bday just the 5.5 of us on his actual bday last week. We went out for some pizza, games, Toys R Us shopping and ended it with some carrot cake. The kid does love him some carrots. He got to pick out 2 DS games and we got him a slinky which he was just dying for. The past several days he has done nothing but play with his new yo-yo and slinky. The pizza place was fun and it was Gavin’s first time. Logan and Mason have been there tons, especially when they were little. However, I’m not sure the oldest has the same appreciation for the “baby” rides as he used too. Clearly, the birthday boy is unfazed, and the littlest monkey is having the time of his life.
Gavin really enjoyed the teacups while the big kids got to go be big kids and play all the big kid games. I had to use the words Big Kid 100 times that night to make up for having Logan ride the “baby” ride. Good grief the things I make them do for each other. Sigh!
Yesterday, we got to spend a little bit outside since the boys were going crazy from a three day weekend and Mrs. Sickly and Mr. Gimpy were also feeling cabin fever. Jared threw the football to the older two, with his left hand, which made for quite the scene and I raked up a leaf pile for Gavin to play in. I’m sure the neighbors wondered what was happening at the Harris household since I was combusting into coughing hacks every 25 seconds while trying to rake and Jared’s normally on point spirals were wollering all over the place. The cooler air was killing my throat and I raked for about 3 minutes before I felt like I had ran a marathon. Pretty sure we lasted all of 15 minutes before we longed for the cabin fever again. Gavin enjoyed the leaf pile though. It was his first one and he was pretty fascinated. The leaves are so dry from the lack of rain but that just made them extra crunchy and enjoyable.
My youngest sister got her license last week so now all of my siblings can officially drive. Hooray!!! Never thought that day would come. Halloween is Saturday and while I’ve had everyones costumes for 2 months I haven’t had any of them try them on. I’m guessing I should probably have them do that so we can avoid all trick or treating meltdowns and disasters before we are supposed to head out the door Saturday. The boys are really excited since this is their favorite holiday and here’s to hoping they don’t get sick on all the candy.
I missed my 16 week bump date last week due to being sick so will post both the 16 week and 17 week update on Wednesday together.
Hope you all had great weeks and happy Monday!
