So in the smart phone world that we live in I think we all can say we rely heavily on apps. They’re convenient, easy and usually plugged with info we need or function. I’m a Mom and a business owner so my apps vary greatly from “Help! The target line is 100 people long and I need to entertain my toddler” to “I want to date my husband tonight so what does the redbox have to offer.” Today I wanted to share with you the apps on my phone I love and use every single day.
Photo Editing Apps:
Using social media and being present every single day is a HUGE part of marketing for both of my business’ therefore having good photos is a must. I am no professional photographer, even though I love taking pictures, so I’m not going to win any awards but I do like a pretty picture. For instagram I like my feed to have a good “theme” or similar look so that all the pictures flow together. This is just a personal preference but it helps when editing because I use the same filters and edits to get photos to be similar. My top two are:
VCSO CAM – I think everyone on planet earth loves this app and it makes creating similar pictures really easy. There’s tons of free filters as well as some you can buy but I can usually get by with the free ones. My favorite filters are HB1 and HB2 which are the ones I use the most often. Fun Fact: blue tinted pictures seem to be the most liked photos and the most appealing to the human eye. So use that temperature gauge and add some cool tones.
AFTERLIGHT: I also ADORE afterlight. It’s perfect for anyone want to get fun edges around their photos and the brightness features is my absolute favorite. It can brighten even the darkest pictures without making them look grainy and pixelated.
As for adding any text or doodles
OVER: I like this for it’s simple to use features and if I just need a quick text overlay I can do a quick edit on this app and done.
RHONNA DESIGNS: For more complex texts, colors and shapes I use Rhonna. There is also a collage app through Rhonna which I hear is also equally good.
AMAZON: I sell on this platform so obviously I buy from here as well. I am a self-proclaimed Amazon Whore and for real I can’t get enough. The app has a cool barcode scan feature so you can scan anything while out and about and see if you can get it cheaper on Amazon. 9 times out of 10 you can -if you’re willing to wait a couple of days. Also, get Prime already. You’ll thank me.
ETSY: I also sell on this platform but love to be a customer here as well. Being a small business owner I try very hard to support small business whenever I can. They are the backbone of the working force after all. Yes, costs are more on Etsy but you’re paying for labor, quality and a lot of love that went into your specific piece. So keep that in mind before you start complaining about prices. You won’t find anything as good at some big box store. Okay, off my soap box.
ZULILY: If you’re willing to wait longer for shipping you can find some good discounted prices on unique items. There is a no return policy because of the nature of the business so keep that in mind but I always score fun workout tanks, beauty products and even handbags from here. Also, there’s affordable maternity clothes for all you pregnant mommas.
TARGET CARTWHEEL: If you’re a target addict this is also a must have app. Discounts and coupons and there is also a scan feature you can use as you shop to make searching a breeze. Paired with sale items and their redcard the savings can really add up, especially on diapers and formula.
GROUPON: I like this app for local things but it’s also great if you travel. I hear a lot of people use it to find great local restaurants and deals at places they wouldn’t normally find while on vacation. A lot of hole in the wall places run groupons so it’s a fun way to get a little taste of the culture your visiting and again support a small business.
HAPPY SCALE: I have a love/hate relationship with the scale and I certainly don’t think you should be defined by that number. However, I do like to keep track of my weight on here for health reasons. A lot of doctors ask for weights at various times in your life dating months or years back and it can be hard to remember. It also keeps me on track and when losing weight since it’s a good motivation to see the little tracker in a downward direction.
New Baby Apps
THE WONDER WEEKS: This is a book and the free app doesn’t have as much information unless you buy the upgrades but it does give a basic overview of the “leaps” your baby is currently in. It’s super interesting and has always been accurate with my kids. It’s nice to have a resource when your kid is extra fussy or seems off – usually you’ll find their in a new “leap” or stage as you might call it. They also include activities you can do to encourage your babies development in each “leap” and signs to look for.
MAMMABABY: I am no longer breastfeeding but when I did I liked this app as well. It was easy to keep track of feedings, which side the baby breastfed on and for how long. This can be a godsend at the beginning and when trying to establish milk supply or pump enough milk for your return back to work.
Save My Kids From Epic Meltdowns In The Target Checkout Apps:
ELMO/COOKIE CALLS: So Gavin is obsessed with Sesame Street so he loves all things Elmo and Cookie. This is a simple app where Elmo or Cookie calls and does a 30 second little speech to your kiddo. It’s sooo easy your toddler can press the buttons and it really does keep them entertained. Just make sure they aren’t getting out of the app and causing all sorts of mischief on your other apps. Several deleted apps and toddler selfies later – I’ve learned this lesson.
YOUTUBE: YouTube is a lifesaver for kids of all ages. I only stick my kid in front of my phone in emergencies but this is also helpful in eating establishments when you have a very hungry toddler and the food is taking a bit longer than expected. Videos to the rescue.
Just For Fun:
CHATBOOKS: This is a great app for getting pics off your phone and into your hands. Chatbooks will just take pictures directly off your phone and compile a book or you can custom make one yourself. They’re small, fun and easy conversation starters when you have company over.
BITMOJI: Okay, my best friend told me about this a few weeks ago and let me tell you it’s the most fun I’ve had in 28 years of living. I’m pretty sure me and her are much too old for such immaturity but it’s life changing. My husband has it and I basically recommend it to everyone because it’s seriously so much fun. It’s basically another keyboard for texting but like emoji’s on steroids. Get it, love it, use it and have some freaking laughs cause it’s great.
