Hey, friends! I wanted to do a quick review on the Amber teething necklaces. I did one of these 2 years ago when Gavin was a baby but wanted to do an updated review since we have now used it with 2 of our babies.
For those of you who don’t know, an amber teething necklace is a necklace made up of amber beads that when worn releases oils into the skin that are said to promote comfort to teething babies. There is a lot of science behind these necklaces and the healing powers of stones and jewels in general. I’m not trying to get all wonky woo on you but it really is fascinating and doesn’t hurt to try out new things. I’m a big believer in natural remedies, when appropriate, so will try anything at least once. Back in ancient times, stones and jewels were used a lot for mental illness, arthritis and other common disease. People wore them like jewelry in the form of necklaces and even rings. Anywhere, they could have contact with skin. So anyways I digress from my history lesson but it is fascinating if you’re ever bored and want some light reading material. haha
I got our teething necklace off Amazon but they can be found numerous places. The only thing you want to make sure of is that it is pure baltic amber and not some cheap knock off. Most necklaces run between $20-$30 so if you’re looking at something cheaper it’s probably not the real deal. Buying a fake will save you money but will be absolutely useless in calming your baby.
This necklace worked miracles with Gavin. I was impressed at how well it calmed him and seemed to ease a lot of his discomfort. I knew nothing about these necklaces at that time and so really was pleasantly surprised. After that experience, I was a big believer so immediately purchased one for Boden, when I saw the first signs of teething coming. So far I’m equally loving it with him. Boden is already a chill baby and doesn’t fuss much but he is cutting his two bottom teeth so has been more agitated than usual. I pulled out the necklace the other day and I have seen a HUGE difference. He is calmer, more alert, and doesn’t fuss nearly as much during the day. He wears it all throughout the day and then I take it off of him at night. Ironically, as soon as I take the necklace off, in preparation for bed, he starts fussing and is in much more discomfort. Getting him to sleep has taken up to 2 hours the past few nights because he is hurting. You can loosely wrap the necklace around the ankle while they sleep so I may try that tonight to see if that helps.
Does this necklace take away every ounce of pain and ensure no fussiness at all. NO. Teething is teething and it’s going to be rough no matter what but I can honestly say the tears and discomfort is 75% better with these necklaces. I didn’t have these when my older two were babies and it really is like a whole different world when I compare experiences. I’ve heard some people claim they don’t work and as with everything it’s probably going to depend on the kid and how they react to it but for us it’s been a lifesaver. Also, if it’s not working I would definitely check again to make sure you got the real deal holyfield. Beware of counterfeiters online. They’re everywhere!!
So would I recommend this? Absolutely. And if you’re not expecting a baby any time soon but know someone who is, they make a great shower gift that is unique and fun. Cheers to surviving the long nights and months of teething. May your coffee (or wine) be strong!
