We have arrived at almost the end. With only “14” days to go I am definitely ready to meet this little guy. I’m predicting he will make an appearance this week but as we all know baby’s work at their own pace and on their own time so I’m trying not to be to presumptuous. However, even with the increasing pain, contractions and other labor signs I’m trying to remind myself that he will be here soon, the end is near and that I really will miss being pregnant when it’s done. (I know most people think I’m crazy when I say that) So without further ado I shall update on this week…..maybe next week we will have a little guy to talk about. 🙂
How far along: 38 weeks
Baby’s size: Measuring anywhere between 6.5 and 7 pounds (approximately) he is officially out of room in this belly. He is continuing to put on fat and is still inhaling amniotic fluid to ready for that first little poop! Hooray! He is also shedding the skin protectant vernix and lanugo so he’ll be covered with less white stuff upon arrival. He is also producing more surfactant which is a lube like substance the keeps the lungs from sticking together when breathing. Lots of fascinating stuff still going on!!
Sleep: The pain is still here and the bathroom breaks are much more frequent. Although, a lot of times I get up just to relieve my aching hips and pelvis knowing that once the weight hits my bladder I’ll have to pee anyways. Getting out of bed has become a chore since putting up the pack n play which we will be using as a bassinet. Trying to maneuver my way around that while not being able to lift my legs very well (due to pelvic pain) has been quite the adventure. I have been EXHAUSTED lately though. I remember feeling the exact same way with the other boys too. As soon as I hit 37 weeks I’m toast. I know it’s a mixture of not getting deep sleep at night but the body is definitely preparing itself for labor and using ALL of my energy and resources to do so. I feel like I could sleep all day and still be extremely fatigued. Although, I’m sure once labor does come the little extra shut eye I’ve been trying to squeeze into my day will help. I’ve also been having tons of contractions at night and Gavin is all over the place when those are occurring. So between the pain of the contractions and him stretching all over the place it’s very hard to quiet my own mind and drift off to sleep.
Best moment this week: Logan lost both of his two front teeth which was exciting for him. He looks like a vampire now and has gotten over the initial “freak out” moment we all have at that age. Plus, he has figured out how to chew again so life is good. I also went to the doctor on Tuesday and I was 1cm dilated and my cervix was still thick. She wasn’t concerned about my thick cervix since often times with third babies they stay thick until active labor.
Worst moment this week: As mentioned in an earlier post I had a false labor episode Wednesday night. It wasn’t the “worst” moment per say since 37 weeks is still a little early and my doctor wasn’t on call. So it worked out pretty well. Plus, when the nurse checked me I was dilated to a 2, 70% effaced and he was at a -2. So I had actually made quite a bit of progress in one day from my doctors appointment. So that was encouraging. I definitely think I will be much more dilated when active labor hits with this one. With my other two I remained at a 1 until active labor…..still went quick…but didn’t have much change before then.
Movement: His movement has amped up quite a bit considering the lack of room he has. Although, I’m not sure he is too concerned with that since he can just stretch and move my internal organs around. I, however, am not loving all of that. As the contractions continue to build, become more frequent and hurt a little more…he is definitely on the boogie train. So it’s always a nice reassurance during contractions that he is okay but at night it can definitely be hard to stop the dance party.
Cravings: Root beer floats. I had one yesterday and I’m sure I’ll happen to find myself in possession of one today. Otherwise, I certainly haven’t been eating nearly as much since I can’t fit very much in here and with all the contractions eating isn’t the biggest thing on the mind.
Missing Anything: Most of the things I’m missing won’t change much after birth considering I’ll be breastfeeding. So things like caffeine intake, sushi and all that….well I’ve pretty much just decided to try to get over it because I’ll still have to monitor it afterwards.
Queasy or sick: I have a little bit of nausea with some of the contractions since he’ll push on my stomach quite a bit. But other than that nothing I’m concerned with.
Looking forward to: Doctor appointment on Tuesday where she will check me again. If he hasn’t made an appearance I’m hoping I’ve progressed a little further. I have been losing major mucus plug since last Wednesday so I’d be pretty surprised if I’m still at a 2. Otherwise, I’m really looking forward to meeting him.
Baby item of the week: We got the nursery all done, cleaned up, vacuumed and ready for Gavin’s arrival. I did a nursery post this week that has tons of pictures and tips for DIY stuff. Check it out and let me know what you think! I’m loving it.
Have a great week and cross your fingers you get a baby introduction soon!!
