How far along: 23 weeks
Baby’s size: About 1.5 pounds and the size of a large spaghetti squash. It’s always fun to go to the store and show the boys all the produce that babies are compare too. They love the visual and usually make some wise crack about it. Good times!!
Sleep: Sleeping is the same and probably will get increasingly uncomfortable until the end. This is nothing new or surprising to me since I have done this a few times before but it doesn’t make it any easier. The pain in my hips is more and more intense each week. I have tried to rig a system to where I can sleep sitting up in bed leaning against the headboard. It helps halfway through the night when I just can’t bear to lay on either side and continue to put pressure on my aching hip bones. The upside is that the body gets prepared for all the sleepless nights following the birth of a little one. So while it’s no always fun it does help prepare and make life with a new baby a little easier.
Best moment this week: The Super Bowl! Yes, it was a heartbreaking, bone shattering, felt like a 59 minute stabbing loss but I’m glad we made it, I’m proud of our team and all the hard work they put in and I’m thankful for all the great memories and moments we got to share with our two boys that we will always remember.
Worst moment of the week: More bitter cold and running out of things to wear. This winter has done a number on my wardrobe. I didn’t buy very many maternity outfits in order to save money and these bitter cold temperatures are making it worse. It’s meaning I need layers I don’t have and I am having to do laundry like crazy. Pants and shirts seem to be snagging like crazy…..have no idea why….. and I’m considering moving to a nudist colony to save some money! Grrr…. I think it’s safe to say that me and the rest of the country are suffering from the winter blues and desperately need some sunshine and temps above 50 degrees.
Movement: Hiccups have begun and Gavin is still making his presence known. This is always the most fun time because the baby is still comfortable to move a lot but big enough for others to feel the kicks and punches. Here in a few weeks the fetal movement will slow down considerably since he will be smashed so I’m relishing in knowing he is happy and moving around for now.
Cravings: I didn’t have any significant cravings this week. Still like my fruit and sweets and I miss my coffee. I was drinking it every day or every other day and monitoring my caffeine intake but I have to have sweetener with my coffee and decided I was consuming way more sugar than I should be. I’m still probably consuming way more sugar than I should….but at least I’m not adding a whole cup of sugary coffee to the mix.
Missing Anything: Besides coffee…..I was craving a glass of wine the other night so I do miss my occasional treat. Otherwise I miss my cool, calm and collected self. My hormones and mood swings are through the roof these days but I’m trying to keep them under wraps and warn everyone of the devil-woman before she appears.
Queasy or sick: Feeling much better than last week. I think the nausea had to do with a propane leak we had that was filtering into the house. Thankfully everything is fine and baby’s health is good. It was definitely scare though.
Looking forward to: Weather pending I will be hosting my cousin’s baby shower this weekend. Excited to get all the prep work and purchase all the stuff I will need for Saturday. It has taken me longer to decide on the direction I was going to take for the shower (Theme wise) but I think I finally have it nailed down. However, they are calling for a snow storm on Friday so we may be postponing the adventure until the next weekend.
Baby item of the week: I have been sewing up a storm. I have the crib sheets almost done, a blanket in the final stages and material cut and assembled for the burp cloths and a couple of other projects. It’s been a process but it’s been fun being able to customize everything and put in a little labor of love for our new little guy. Can’t nest any better than that!
I will do a post on all the sewing projects when they are all complete.
