Height/Weight: Went to the doctor today and he is 8 lbs 10 oz and 21.75 inches. He is definitely a growing boy….probably from all the milk he eats. He is truly a Hog!!
Routine: We are in somewhat of a better routine this week…..during the day at least. We wake up around 8:00 most mornings. Daddy feeds Gavin while I pump. We both eat breakfast and then get showers and dressed for the day. I still insist on doing makeup and hair every day because there is nothing worse than schlepping around in bed head and pajamas while having a newborn. (at least for me) I need to be dressed and presentable if I hope to have motivation to do anything productive for the day. Plus, when you have a jelly post baby body a little hair and makeup action goes a long way for the self esteem. Anyways, after those shenanigans are complete the rest of the day is spent feeding Gavin and pumping every 2 hours. I try to squeeze in a bit of work……which has been about 30 minutes a day at this point. After dinner we usually all head outside for a little fresh air and then try to have a little family time before the boys turn in around 8:00. We have been up until midnight or later most nights because the nighttime routine is still all over the place. However, getting the day down firm has been a huge relief.
Sleeping: Oh I wish I could say I was getting sleep. Gavin wakes up as soon as we decide it’s bedtime and the past two nights it’s taken me nearly 2 – 2 1/2 hours to get him to finally doze off. Therefore, I haven’t been getting to sleep until nearly 2 in the morning. By that time it’s usually time to pump and or feed him again. Once that is done he is usually fairly easy to get back to sleep but by the time pumping is done and I actually fall asleep it’s time to do it all over again. I’m hoping we will get on a better night routine once we get all the feeding difficulties ironed out. Plus, once he is a bit older he will be easier to keep awake before bedtime which will hopefully prompt him falling asleep at a more decent time. He is awake during the day a lot more so the boys are loving that. I also had him take naps in his crib this week which he absolutely adores. He loves his music mobile and it soothes him right to dreamland. It will be really nice when he can sleep in his own room at night.
Eating/Feeding: Like I said above he is eating every 2 hours like clockwork. He will be sound asleep and then wake up mad as ever until a bottle is in his mouth. It’s quite hysterical. I have gone to exclusively pumping the past 2 days since we have had so many breastfeeding difficulties. It’s not ideal since the pump definitely doesn’t get the best milk output but it’s helped with the routine of things better. I’m also supplementing about 25% formula since I am unable to pump enough ounces for his demand at this point. I’ve tried many of things but my milk just doesn’t seem to be producing as well as it did with my other two kids. I am going to try to keep this up as much as possible but if my milk continues to decrease I fear it may not last as long as I had hoped.
Sizes: Still in NB but I think we will be heading to size 1 diapers soon since I’m about to run out.
Milestones: He had his first bath this week…..which he LOVED! Definitely going to be a water baby. Plus, there is nothing better than snuggling with a freshly bathed, smelling good baby. Best smell ever! Haha. He is also more awake during the day, which as lethargic as he has been, is a big milestone for us. He is laughing in his sleep which is the cutest sound. Always makes me wonder what in the world they are dreaming about. Adorable. He LOVES to be held and snuggled and if he could sleep anywhere it would be on my chest. He loves skin to skin and it truly is the sweetest.
Favorite Moment: I got the cutest picture of me and him with him actually smiling. Definitely the highlight of my week.
I am feeling much better this week. My only complaint is just weakness. My lower back and abs are definitely still weak as can be and I know it will take many months to get them even in half the shape they were before. I have difficulty standing for long periods of time or rocking the baby in the middle of the night due to the lower back pain. However, I try to just avoid those situations all together so I don’t regret it the next day. My bruise, where my epidural was, is pretty much gone….although the 8 holes still remain. The fluid is still there but it feels much better and looks a lot better than it did. Almost all the pain from the epi has completely vanished which makes me feel so much better and much less worried about permanent damage. My right side is still slightly weaker than my left but not nearly as noticeable as it was last week.
As for my post baby bod…..well I’ve lost a little over 20 pounds so far but definitely have a lot of toning and exercising in my future. My appetite has mostly come back but with such a regimented feeding and pumping routine it’s been hard to fit in meals. I fear lack of food and drink may be causing my milk production to be low. I’ve been trying to drink like crazy….since I have been very thirsty….but again I look at the clock and don’t even realize that 3 hours has gone by without any water at all. Sigh….it’s rough having all these things I have to do in one day. haha
Otherwise, I’m anxious to start walking again and getting a little bit of exercise. Technically, I am not cleared for another 4 weeks but light walking is approved for now. My lifting and driving restrictions are also up tomorrow so I’ll be hitting the road for the first time in weeks. I barely drove my last month of pregnancy due to pelvic pain so this will feel like a day of freedom. Woohoo!!
